Johannesburg - One of Africa’s biggest shopping malls will have free end-to-end Wi-Fi across its more than 130 000 square metres of retail space.
Johannesburg’s R5bn Mall of Africa, which has over 300 shops, opened its doors on Thursday to traffic congestion and streams of visitors.
And South African open-access Wi-Fi Network firm VAST Networks and wireless equipment provider Ruckus Wireless have deployed what they call Africa’s “largest mall Wi-Fi installation to date”.
The companies say the roll-out of the network took more than a year as the teams had to install 1 000 access points.
“A deployment of this scale is a massive undertaking by world standards and an African first which we are very proud of,” said VAST Networks CEO Grant Marais in a statement.
“We are ready to go and cannot wait for visitors to enjoy a Wi-Fi experience that will support any requirements, be it surfing, streaming, downloading large files or simply staying connected to their world,” said Marais.
The Wi-Fi network in the Mall of Africa is also free, according to the mall’s website.
“You can surf the internet for free wherever you are at Mall of Africa,” says the mall’s website.
